For those who have not kept up, Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis is a major upgrade/revision of the original PSO2 1,000 years after it happened. This update will introduce an improved graphics engine, a new larger world and more. This is the official summary...

Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis is our biggest update ever!

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of "Phantasy Star Online", we will focus on a higher level and reshape the story, game system, graphics engine and character creation system. PSO2 will be reborn as an open online RPG with a new combat system and game system to match it!

The twin universe of PSO2: NGS and PSO2 coexist!

Even after the release of PSO2: NGS, you can continue to enjoy the original PSO2. Accounts that have been playing PSO2 will be able to switch between PSO2: NGS and PSO2. However, because the game system is very different, we want to explain PSO2: What has changed in NGS.

Use the new and improved graphics engine to create more gorgeous characters!

The new graphics comes with an enhanced character model. In addition to the PSO2 Meseta features provided in the current character creation system, you will now have more detailed options, such as changing the gloss of character skins. Characters can now move their fingers too! In addition, you will be able to wear more accessories and change their positions to create more custom characters.

Finally, a comprehensive inspection of the core graphics engine of PSO2 will be carried out so that you can use the characters created by PSO2 in PSO2: the NGS system. Of course, all character creation information from PSO2 (including items linked to emoticons and other previously registered data) will be compatible with PSO2: NGS!

"Phantasy Star Online 2: New Genesis" will be released on PC (via the Microsoft Store) and Xbox One sometime in 2021.
